Former ANC Secretary-General, Ace Magashule says he was expelled from the ANC a long time ago, because a certain, “Mr Rupert” wanted him out.
Magashule was speaking on an interview with Newzroom Afrika on Monday, 26 June, where he shared although he was officially ousted from the ruling party earlier this month, the party had already let him go in 2021.
This was, according to Magashule after Johann Rupert gave President Cyril Ramaphosa an ultimatum that if the then Secretary-General doesn’t go, he will no longer be pumping money into the party.
Magashule says, Mr Rupert, “summoned” Ramaphosa, former Deputy Finance Minister, Mcebisi Jonas and Old Mutual Chairman, Trevor Manuel, ordering that if he was not removed as Secretary-General within a week, all funding towards the President and the ANC will seize immediately.
“You will remember there was an article and a certain Mr Rupert said this man, this weekend must go. That weekend, on Zoom, klaar, out, Magashule expelled.
So I was expelled long ago. I will send you those articles so you can put them there, and the public can remember, that I was expelled because Mr Rupert wanted me out.
He told Ramaphosa, ‘If you don’t expel this man, I will no longer support you Mr President.'”

Magashule says the decision to expel him didn’t come recently, and it’s one that happened even outside the country.
Former ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule was expelled from the ANC after being found guilty of misconduct.
Magashule was given 7-days to appeal the ruling, and make representations to the party as to why he should not be expelled as a member.
This after the party’s national disciplinary committee found Magashule guilty of contravening the ANC’s constitution for his attempts to suspend President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2021.
