President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver the eulogy at the funeral of former Minister and ANC stalwart Pravin Gordhan.
The service will take place at the Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban on Thursday morning, 19 September.
This morning, the body of the late Minister left the home of his sister in Reservoir Hills following ceremonial prayers ahead of the Special Official Funeral this morning.
A white hearse will carry the coffin to the Durban ICC in a convoy with the Gordhan family and senior politicians, from the family home in Reservoir Hills which he frequented as a child.
The convoy will make its way through the city of Durban passing key points in the city that shaped the former Minister’s life including the University of Durban Westville, now UKZN, at which he studied pharmacy and began his activism.
The hearse will also pass his family’s first home, a small block of flats in Grey Street.
The funeral service is scheduled to start at 10:00 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli centre where dignitaries are currently arriving.
The final rites according to Hindu customs began at Pravin Gordhan’s family home in Reservoir Hills before the official departure to the the Durban ICC.
Gordhan passed away in the early hours of Friday, 13 September 2024, at the age of 75, in hospital following a period of illness.
