Johannesburg residents will face another 5-day water cut next week due to a planned Rand Water shutdown.
The planned shutdown is expected to take place from Tuesday, 11 July from 19h00 to Thursday, 13 July at 15h00.
This scheduled shutdown comes weeks after a power outage affected City Power’s Orlando power station, which resulted in Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station being negatively impacted.
In a statement issued earlier this week, the water utility says the planned Rand Water shutdown is necessary to complete a tie-in between the A19 and B14 new pipeline, installation of isolation valves, and system upgrades at Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station.
The following Rand Water reservoirs will be affected:
- Waterval 1 and 2
- Roodepoort
- Weltevreden
- Meredale 1 and 2
- Foresthill 1, 2 and 3
“During the Rand Water shutdown, Johannesburg Water infrastructure supplied by the pump station will be affected by no water supply.
It is estimated that full recovery of the systems may take approximately 5-days or longer after supply has been fully restored.”
