Former President Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma is officially a free man.
The Department of Correctional Services (DSC) declared in a statement that the former statesman had been removed from its database.
His arrest came when Zuma had failed to comply with the ConCourt’s ruling forcing him to appear before the Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture.
“The Department of Correctional Services is able to confirm that the former state president, Mr Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, has been released from the system of correctional services. Mr Zuma’s 15 months sentence expired on Friday, October 7 2022,”
“The Constitutional Court sentenced Mr Zumma to 15 months imprisonment in its judgement handed down on 29 June 2021. Mr Zuma was duly admitted at Escourrt Correctional Centre from 08 July 2021.”
“He was subsequently placed on medical parole on 05 September 2021 due to the seriousness of his medical condition. At the time, he had served two months behind bars.”
“Medical parole meant that Mr Zuma was to serve the remainder of his sentence under Kraskop Community Correction.” said the department in a statement.
