Israel and Hamas have agreed to a 4-day ceasefire with terms and conditions, a humanitarian pause that was mediated by the State of Qatar.
On Wednesday, 22 November Qatar announced the welcome temporary pause, which was a joint effort with the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America, between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
While a starting time and date for the ceasefire is yet to be confirmed, Qatar says this should be announced within the next 24-hours and last for 4-days, subject to extension.
Under the agreement, Hamas will need to release 50 civilian women and children hostages currently held in the Gaza strip, in exchange for the release of a number of Palestinian women and children detained in Israeli prisons.
The number of those released will be increased in later stages of implementing the agreement.
“The humanitarian pause will also allow the entry of a larger number of humanitaran convoys and relief aid, including fuel designated for humanitarian needs.
The State of Qatar affirms its commitment to ongoingg diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, stop the bloodshed, and protect civilians. In this regard, the State of Qatar appreciates the efforts of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States of America in reaching this agreement.”
A number of countries have supported the 4-day ceasefire with terms and conditions, including the Maldives, South Africa, and other BRICS nations which consist of: Brazil, Russia, India and China.
