Young people across several countries have increasingly called for older leaders to step aside and make space for a new generation that better understands today’s fast-changing digital and economic landscape.
Critics argue that Africa’s leadership challenge is not only about age but also about long-term rule in some states where leaders have remained in power for decades, raising concerns about democratic renewal and governance.
Africa is home to more than 50 countries, and this infographic highlights some of the continent’s oldest serving leaders currently in office, their countries, years in power, and number of terms served.
