Controversial North West businessman Brown Mogotsi appeared before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Tuesday, 18 November 2025, to testify in Phase Two, responding to serious allegations of corruption and political interference.
Mogotsi was previously accused of acting as a middleman between former Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and alleged crime figure, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala. Allegations, first made public in July 2025, claimed Mogotsi had prior knowledge of confidential police decisions, such as Mchunu’s order to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) on 31 December 2024.
Mogotsi, who claims to be an ANC-aligned businessman and a Crime Intelligence agent since 1999, used his testimony to launch sensational, unverified counter-claims. These included allegations that the Zulu King and the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner are CIA recruits, and that Police Minister Bheki Cele and National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola received multi-million rand kickbacks from Matlala in December 2024.
His claims were met with intense skepticism by the Commission during cross-examination, which repeatedly highlighted the severe lack of evidence to substantiate his testimony.
