Jacob Zuma, the former president of South Africa, will not be on the ballot on May 29, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has confirmed.
Zuma is one of the eight candidates whose disapproval was confirmed by the IEC.
This was confirmed by IEC Chairperson Mosotho Moepya on Thursday at a media briefing held at the commission’s Centurion, Pretoria, office.

Following his 2021 conviction for contempt of court, Zuma was given a 15-month prison sentence by the Constitutional Court. As a result, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and Gauteng experienced the July Unrest.
A person who has served a sentence of more than a year is unable to serve as a member of parliament (MP), per Section 47 of the constitution.
Zuma will therefore not run for office in Parliament.
