Videos have been circulating on social media of an alleged drag racing event that took place over the weekend in Umgeni Road, Durban.
According to some social media users local to the area, illegal drag races have been taking place on the road for years.
In one clip, a vehicle can be seen spinning on the busy road, and shortly after a speeding car crashes into it as bystanders flee for safety.
IOL reports that two people were injured following the incident.
The Metro Police in Durban were alerted of the illegal event by members of the public. By the time they got to the scene, everyone had dispersed.
A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened at the Sydenham police station.
