The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has partnered with the First National Bank (FNB) and Capitec Bank to launch its new digital partnership model, aimed at making Smart ID and Passport services more accessible.
Through this collaboration, the two banks will offer the issuing and renewal of Smart ID cards and Passports directly at selected branches.
The announcement was made by Minister of Home Affairs, Dr Leon Schreiber, who highlighted the significance of the initiative.
“I am proud to announce Capitec Bank and First National Bank as the first banks to sign up to the Department’s new digital partnership model,” he said.
Capitec, in a statement, said the partnership will help create a future where obtaining essential documents is more seamless and secure.
“Using our robust security infrastructure and digital technology, we support the modernisation of DHA’s processes and lay the foundation for a more efficient future,” the bank noted.
Capitec CEO Graham Lee added that the initiative demonstrates the bank’s commitment to working with the government to address everyday challenges.
“By combining our technology, branch network, and client-first approach with the Department of Home Affairs’ mandate, we are making essential services faster, simpler, and more accessible for millions, from suburbs to rural areas,” he said.
Capitec will initially roll out the service at 10 branches, with plans to expand to 100 branches by 2026.
