Motorists should hold onto their wallets and purses, as petrol and diesel prices in September is set to soar.
The new fuel prices were announced on Monday, 04 September, and will come into effect on Wednesday, 06 September, hitting South Africans deep in their pockets.
A whopping R1.71c/l increase for both 93 and 95 octane petrol, and a huge R2.84c/l increase in diesel will likely have a knock-on effect on the cost of living for already cash-strapped South Africans.
According to Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe, the increase was informed by international and local factors, which includes the importation of both crude oil and finished products.
The Department says the adjustments are due to crude oil prices increasing from $79.75 to $84.78, because of tightening supply and production cuts by Saudi Arabia.
