The Hawks have raided ANC Ekurhuleni treasurer-general, Sello Sekhokho’s home due to implications in the R1 billion Tembisa Hospital tender scandal.
Tembisa Hospital which is being investigated in the R330 million PPE tender scandal, was under fire last year for forking out R498 000 on 200 pairs of skinny jeans.
The jeans were purchased for girls aged between 6 to 7-years of age, and cost almost R2,500 each.
Tender scandals at Tembisa Hospital was exposed by slain PPE whistleblower, Babita Deokaran.
Deokaran brought to light that the hospital was involved in spending R850 million of reported fraudulent payments.
In her initial discovery, Deokaran singled out Sekhokho as a central figure in the scheme.
While he denies any involvement, Sekhokho owns three companies, that have in three years benefited from contracts amounting to nearly R1 billion.
Three weeks after breaking the tender scandal, Deokaran was gunned down outside her home in August 2021.
In December last year, details that Sekhokho scored R80 million in tenders emerged.
He achieved these tender deals without a valid license to sell medical products.
This was revealed to DA Shadow MEC for Health in Gauteng, Jack Bloom who posed the question in the provincial legislature.
The response from Gauteng Health and Wellness MEC, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko was that Sekhokho received a total of R14.5 million through his three companies, Kaizen Projects, Nokhokhoko Medical Supplies and Bollanoto Security.
Sekhokho received this through 55 contracts that were with the Tembisa Hospital alone.
