Google.co.za, the South African domain, is unavailable down.
On Friday morning, South Africans began to see strange behaviour on linked sites including Google Maps, which claimed to be unable to connect to the internet, as well as domain name service (DNS) issues on the country’s primary Google search page.
According to Business Insider, the Domain records show that google.co.za was due for renewal at the end of June – but was not renewed.
It was not immediately clear if that was due to an administrative error by Google, or by its US-based domain-name agent MarkMonitor.
