Gayton Mckenzie has wasted no time in assuming his role as Minister of Sports and Arts & Culture of South Africa.
Mckenzie took to X, formerly Twitter, to reveal that he has given an instruction that a list of all artists, creatives, & sportspeople who have been receiving money from the Department of Sport, Arts & Culture be published, stressing that the time when “only a select connected few benefit is over.”
“If you did nothing wrong or didn’t benefit untowardly you have no reason to fear, I have given a clear instruction that the public be made aware of the people that got funding, today! I was shocked when I realised how many complaining artists are receiving money from DSAC.”
Additionally, McKenzie said that he has stopped all trips for super fans.
“We have athletes & artists who are struggling to raise money to attend sporting events and exhibitions, how do we justify paying for fans? We shall no longer be paying for these trips and will use that money where it’s needed the most.”
After the release of a statement, zooming in on the apparent support artist Makhadzi received from the department in the recent past. An impassioned Mpho Maboi believes Makhadzi is being victimised, and so will many others on the list to be published later today.
