Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Rakehoko condemned the attack of a nurse at the Helen Joseph Hospital.
The nurse was stabbed by two men who escorted a friend to the hospital for health care.
The suspects escorted their friend to Helen Joseph Hospital and demanded assistance.
CCTV footage captured the men arguing with staff and other patient escorts at the Accident and Emergency Department.
One of the suspects attacked another escort by slapping him.
Following this, a nurse who stepped outside for a comfort break was robbed and stabbed by the disruptive escorts.
The Gauteng MEC described the incident as disgraceful especially because the men attacked the hospital staff who were meant to assist their friend who had a stab wound.
“We condemn this act of criminality in the strongest possible terms and implore the police to track down the attackers,” Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Rakehoko.
The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning, 26 February.
The nurse is currently receiving treatment at Helen Joseph Hospital and is in a stable condition.
The MEC wishes the nurse a speedy recovery.
