Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Elias Mawela will release the province’s 3rd quarter crime statistics on Tuesday, 14 March.
Mawela will brief media and the Committee on intervention measures employed at the Westbury and Eldorado Park policing precints to curb gang related violence and shootings.
The 3rd quarter crime stats will include the province’s community safety measures for the 2022/23 Financial Year.
Mawela is expected to release the stats at 10h00 and will provide an account particularly focusing on the number of crimes committed in Gauteng during the period of October to December 2022.
Last year’s crime statistics for the same period showed 243 more people were killed in Gauteng, compared to 2020.
This was the highest increase over the past 5 years.
The Commissioner will be holding the briefing at Gold Reef City.
