- Five more senior SAPS officers have been suspended in connection with the Medicare24 tender investigation.
- The suspensions follow the arrest of several senior police officials, including suspended National Commissioner Fannie Masemola.
- A total of 26 police officers have now been arrested in relation to the R360 million tender since March.
Five additional senior police officers have been suspended over their alleged involvement in the controversial Medicare24 tender.
Their suspension was confirmed by the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Monday evening, 08 June 2026.
“Internal departmental processes are currently underway, and in the interest of preserving the integrity of these processes, the SAPS will not provide further comment at this stage,” said police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe.
The suspensions follow the arrest of several senior police officers, including suspended National Commissioner Fannie Masemola, in connection with the R360 million Medicare24 tender that was awarded to businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Those arrested were granted bail ranging from R40,000 to R80,000 and are expected to return to court on 26 June 2026.
The latest suspensions bring the total number of police officers arrested in relation to the matter since March to 26.
In late March, 12 police officers were arrested during a series of raids conducted by the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).
The tender at the centre of the investigation relates to a contract awarded to Matlala for services that were to be rendered to SAPS.
Investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
