On Monday afternoon, South African Power utility, ESKOM has announced that load shedding outages will be escalated to Stage 4.
This is reportedly due to Unit 2 of the Kusile Power station that has tripped earlier on Monday, taking 720MW of generating capacity with it.
Stage 4 load shedding will be implemented from 17:00pm to 22:00pm.
“While this unit has since returned to service, it will slowly load up to full capacity during the night. This added loss of capacity regretfully requires ESKOM to increase load shedding to stage 4 from17:00 to 22:00 tonight”, ESKOM announced in a statement.
ESKOM noted that they would continue to monitor the system, and will adjust and communicate any changes.
