The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Gauteng is mourning the tragic passing of Regional Deputy Secretary General, Moshe Mphahlele who was shot and killed in a service delivery protest in Alexandra.
While the circumstances around Mphahlele’s death are still being investigated, reports suggest he was shot in police crossfire.
Mphahlele, a dedicated public servant, was reportedly shot while police were dispersing the crowd who were protesting over the occupation of flats in Bramley, Alexandra.
The EFF are yet to release a statement regarding Mphahlele’s death but did confirm his passing on Monday afternoon, 05 August.
Speaker of Council in the City of Joburg, Margaret Arnolds called for a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure justice is served and the truth be brought to light.
The Speaker and the entire Council extended condolences to Mphahlele’s family, friends and colleagues.
“Losing a colleague and a friend in such a manner is undoubtedly a profound and challenging experience.
In these moments of grief, it is crucial for all members of the Council and the broader community to come together, uphold the values of justice, and work towards a peaceful and respectful resolution.
The loss of Moshe Mphahlele serves as a sombre reminder of the importance of our collective commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and dignity of all individuals.”
