Health Minister Joe Phaahla has announced the 4th case of monkeypox in South Africa.
According to the Phaahla, the case was identified through laboratory testing of a 28-year-old male from the Western Cape.
The patient reportedly travelled to Spain and returned to South Africa on the second week of August.
“The fourth case follows three unlinked laboratory-confirmed Monkeypox cases that were reported from Gauteng, Western Cape, and Limpopo province respectively.” read the statement.
Although none of the infected first three people had travelled abroad, the Gautenger had frequent contact with someone who did.
Additionally, the first Western Cape case had unspecified contact with people who had visited other countries.
