The Department of Basic Education is said to be investigating a defamatory video about Kelly Khumalo, involving primary school learners.
In a clip that went viral last week, a group of children hurl insults at Kelly Khumalo, blaming her for the murder of Senzo Meyiwa.
The video which was seemingly recorded by an educator, included the children singing, “I hate Kelly Khumalo. She is a Johannesburg b***h who killed Senzo.”
Kelly Khumalo responded to the video which made the rounds, saying it’s sad that adults would rather focus on destroying her by destroying the future of the youth.
Sharing a video of her daughter reading, the singer says people should work on educating children instead of teaching them such filth.
The video came under heavy online criticism, with many South Africans appalled that children were being taught such vulgarity at school.
For an educator to even film the children, let alone share the clip has raised serious concern for the state of education in the country.
“It shows the level of maturity that teachers invent to these kids. I’m sure even their parents are not aware that these kids are uttering such words in class. The department is the problem here.”

The school has not been identified but department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga said it is disappointing, but the matter is under investigation.
