City Power have confirmed that a third charred body has been found at another tampered with substation in Johannesburg.
This after two other burnt bodies were discovered at substations in Ferndale, Randburg, and Nancefield, in the Lenasia area on Monday, 24 July.
The third charred body was recovered on Thursday morning, 27 July at the Central Substation in the inner city.
Infrastructure was vandalized, and the deceased is suspected to be one of those attacking and vandalizing electricity infrastructure across the city.
City Power spokesperson Issac told Kaya News reporter, Juliet Joseph that teams are now working on restoring power, after the suspected vandalism led to outages in large parts of the city.
“Our teams were responding to an outage at Central Substation in the inner city, when they discovered the charred body It looks like the substation was also vandalized, so we treat it as this was somebody who broke into our substation and tried to vandalize the equipment, and were electrocuted, and died on the spot.
Police and emergency services were called, and the area was closed off, so we didn’t even get to start work on restoring the electricity supply, as the outage effects most of the eastern parts of the CBD, including the area around Wemmer.”

Mangena is hopeful that electricity supply will be restored by Friday afternoon, and apologizes to residents and customers affected by the incident.
