The City of Tshwane is still without a mayor after Mncedi Ndzwanana, city council speaker adjourned Wednesday’s special sitting without consensus reached on COPE councillor, Justice Sefanyetso.
This after the controversial resignation of Murunwa Makwerela, highlighted the fake rehabilitation certificate for his insolvency.
Failing to replace Makwerela last week, Wednesday’s sitting ended in an impasse, with speaker adjourning the session until further notice.
While COPE is motioning for Sefanyetso to take over the Executive Mayor’s role, questions around his eligibility were raised.
There is no agreement between factions within COPE over who’s a more viable candidate.
The Speaker said that he had two letters from Cope leaders, one saying that they were withdrawing him as its representative and another saying that they were not.
City of Joburg speaker, Colleen Makhubele was blamed for causing confusion, with the submission of another letter and the second name to replace Makwarela.
“She is here for her own agenda which we don’t know what she is up to. But be that as it may, this is not a romantic party. This is not The Bold and the Beautiful, if people want boyfriends/girlfriends it must happen elsewhere. Not here in the City of Tshwane.”
