A burst underground water pipe has caused a huge sinkhole in the Durban CBD.
On Saturday, 08 June, plumbers were on site at Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street in the Durban Central Business District to drain the sinkhole and commence with repairs to the burst pipe.
Motorists are warned to use alternative routes and follow the directions of Metro Police who are diverting traffic to ensure safety.
“eThekwini Municipality warns motorists and road users of a major sinkhole that has occurred in Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street due to an unerground water pipe burst. Plumbers are on site already.
Officials from the Water and Sanitation Department including plumbers are on site to isolate and repair the burst pipe.”
Repairs to the sinkhole will begin in the next few days.
The sinkhole is not affecting the Comrades Marathon which is taking place on Sunday, 09 June.
