- Brian Molefe has vacated his parliamentary seat to serve as the MK party’s full-time Treasurer-General.
- The transition aims to bolster the party’s financial capacity and strategic resource mobilisation under Jacob Zuma’s leadership.
- Despite his political promotion, Molefe remains out on bail while facing high-profile fraud and corruption charges.
Former Eskom CEO Brian Molefe has resigned as a Member of Parliament to focus on his new role as Treasurer-General of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party.
The party announced on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, that the move follows a directive from leader Jacob Zuma to prioritise internal financial discipline and organisational growth.
In a statement, the MK party praised Molefe for his “disciplined” service in Parliament and his commitment to the party’s “revolutionary programme.”
The leadership has called upon all party structures to support Molefe as he transitions into the role full-time.
Molefe, who was appointed to the treasury post last month, is currently facing multiple state-capture corruption trials related to his previous tenure at Transnet.
