The Border Management Authority (BMA) announced its holiday season schedule for December 2024–January 2025, which is intended to handle heightened border operations.
The BMA’s main initiatives this holiday season include working with Interpol and local law enforcement agencies, deploying 69 more personnel, and extending operating hours at important ports of entry.
Smuggling of illegal commodities, cross-border crimes, and illegal immigration are some of the complicated border-related issues that South Africa faces. The BMA expects to help more than six million people return to their pre-COVID-19 levels, according to Commissioner Dr. Michael Masiapato.
“Our focus will be the delivery of integrated, effective and efficient processes at the ports of entry, where only legitimate people and goods will be allowed to enter and exit South Africa,” he told the media on Monday.
“We, therefore, want to warn all travellers to desist from committing any act of criminality around the ports of entry and at the border law enforcement areas, as they will be detected, arrested, and then deported.” Masiapato said.
