The community of Van Dyk Park in Boksburg has expressed fear following a shooting incident involving suspected police informer Wiandre Pretorius.
He survived an attempted hit on Thursday morning, which has left a bitter taste in people’s mouths, considering that he is one of the officials whose name was mentioned at the Madlanga Commission last year by slain Witness D.
Witness D, Marius van der Merwe, claimed they were involved in concealing the murder of a man in Ekurhuleni.
Pretorius’ car was shot 16 times by unknown men in a drive-by shooting, seconds after he arrived at his Boksburg home.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni has established a team to investigate the incident.
Furthermore, Gauteng police have obtained CCTV footage from Klapper Street, where the attempted hit occurred.
Mthombeni said Pretorius survived the incident and is being kept in a safe place. He confirmed that video footage of the incident is being probed in order to effect arrests.
He also clarified that Pretorius is not a police officer and declined to confirm whether he was linked to SAPS in any way.
