Annual consumer inflation cooled for a fifth consecutive month, easing to 2,8% in October from 3,8% in September. This is the lowest inflation print since June 2020.
According to Statistics SA, the main cause of the slowdown is still declining fuel prices. Prices for gasoline and diesel fell by more than 5% between September and October, and were over 10% lower in October than they were in the previous year.

According to Stats SA, average food costs also dropped significantly in October, from 4.5% to 4.7% over the preceding six months, to 3.6%. This is the lowest level of food inflation since November 2019.
