On Friday morning, 1st of April, Bathabile Dlamini, the president of the ANC Women’s League, was sentenced to an R200 000 fine or four years in prison by the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, with half of either sentence suspended.
Dlamini was found guilty of lying under oath at the Ngoepe inquiry into the Sassa grants fiasco in 2017.
This was when she claimed that she did not appoint parallel workstreams and that they did not report to her instead of Sassa’s executive committee.
