The African National Congress (ANC) is calling for an end to Israeli brutality and reiterated that the party stands with the people of Palestine.
This after over 1000 people have been killed in recent attacks between Israel and the alleged militant group Hamas.
On Saturday, 07 October, Israeli claimed that Hamas held hundreds of its people hostage, allegedly launching an invasive attack on the West Bank.
However, the ANC, says the recent conflict was escalated after Israel targeted the Al-Aqsa mosque.
In a statement, the party has extended its support for the people of Palestine against the unlawful occupation by Israel, and have called for an immediate ceasefire.
ANC National Spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri said the stance by Palestinian communities to respond to the Israeli brutality is expected.
“The ANC stands with the people of occupied Palestine as it is clear that the degenerating security situation is directly linked to the unlawful Israeli occupation.
Israel’s policy of settling its civilians in occupied Palestinian territory and displacing the local population contravenes fundamental rules of international humanitarian law.
The destruction of the Al-Aqsa Mosque is the latest international escalation of violence and conflict in the West Bank.
It is yet another instalment of conflict in Israel and occupied Palestine, which has not been met with a credible response by the international community, particularly the United Nations and the International Criminal Court.”

Bhengu-Motsiri called for urgent intervention by the international community, to end the violence.
