EThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda has been redeployed to the National Council of Provinces [NCOP], and his last day in office will be on Friday.
After Zandile Gumede, who was suspected of fraud and corruption, was ousted in 2019, Kaunda was appointed mayor. His redeployment, according to the ANC, marks the beginning of a new era after the general elections.
The party stated in a statement that it is working with all eThekwini citizens, regardless of political affiliation, and that it is identifying critical areas that need immediate attention.
“As we usher in a new era following the national and provincial elections, we are identifying key areas that require urgent focus,”
“We extend our appreciation to him for his dedication during the most difficult period such as the ravaging floods, the outbreak of Covid-19 and many other challenges. Equally, we thank him for serving the people of eThekwini with dedication,”
The ANC provincial secretary, Bheki Mtolo.
