Aircraft carrying Malawi’s Vice-President and 9 others has gone missing.
In the midst of stormy weather on Monday morning, a plane carrying the vice president of Malawi Saulos Klaus Chilima and nine other people vanished, prompting an investigation. Troops have started searching a hilly area in Malawi, an East African nation.
Chilima, 51, was one of nine people on a military plane that took off from Lilongwe, the country’s capital, at 09:17 a.m. (0717 GMT), the aircraft was supposed to land at Mzuzu Airport at 10:02 a.m.
In a Monday broadcast speech, President Lazarus Chakwera expressed his shock over the disappearance of nine other people including Vice President Saulos Chilima from a Malawi Defense Force plane that was traveling from the capital, Lilongwe, to the northern city of Mzuzu.
According to Malawian officials, dense jungle and hazy conditions have complicated the hunt for a missing aircraft.
The aircraft may have crashed in a northern woodland, according to a senior military official, but it has not yet been located.
