The South African Police Service (SAPS) Special Task Force (STF) team has rescued ninety undocumented Ethiopian nationals from Sunnydale Ridge, Johannesburg. The individuals were reportedly being held against their will and inhumanely treated.
The victim who had been abducted and was rescued was one of the Ethiopian nationals. The victim was abducted on Tuesday afternoon in Benoni, and his captors started extorting his family for hundreds of thousands of ransom money right once. It is anticipated that they will shortly appear in Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
“A multidisciplinary team, led by the STF, were tracing a victim of kidnapping for ransom when they they also made the discovery of the undocumented nationals who were found locked up, confined and packed into rooms.
“Investigations are underway as to how these nationals were trafficked into SA,”
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (HAWKS) has been tasked with conducting additional investigations in this case. The police stated that without the efforts of the Sandringham and Organized Crime Detectives Unit, Crime Intelligence Unit, and Daveyton SAPS as well as private security.
