Police have welcomed the hefty sentence of a biological father who raped and impregnated his 14-year old daughter.
A meticulous investigation by Warrant Officer Thabisho Mashililishili and Sergeant Elliot Gaya of Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, aided the sensitive case.
The 43-year old father raped his daughter in September 2012, and the case was reported to police in June 2013.
When the biological father was arrested, it came to light that he had also threatened to kill his daughter if she told anyone about the rape.
The father, from ZF Mgcawu District, was found guilty of rape and sexual assault by the Regional Court of Upington and was sentenced to 6 life terms for rape, and three years of imprisonment for sexual assault.
Provincial Commissioner for the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola welcomed the sentencing, “There is no place for perpetrators of gender-based violence and femicide in our communities. The fight against GBV continues and the SAPS is determined to stamp down the authority of the state.”
There are no details as to why sentencing was passed after so many years.
