Two female Indian nationals were rescued, while six suspects were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking and kidnapping in Mayfair, Johannesburg.
A multi-disciplinary team consisting of various units within the South African Police Service (SAPS), led by the Anti-Kidnapping Task Team received intelligence about a Johannesburg based human trafficking network.
The intel received alluded to the operation targeting and preying on Indian women in Mayfair.
According to police, the women are allegedly lured into the country under false pretences of employment.
When they arrive into South Africa they are then kept against their will, and offered to clients for sexual encounters.
The team descended on a commercial address in Mayfair where two Indian women aged between 20 and 24-years were rescued.
Cellphones, numerous documents including passports and cash was seized, while the investigation continues.
The 6 suspects, all men, are expected to face charges of human trafficking, sex trafficking, kidnapping and extortion.
