49 pit bulls have reportedly been surrendered by dog owners in Bloemfontein.
According to the Bloemfontein SPCA, dog owners have turned over 49 pit bulls this week.
This comes after the weekend mauling death of an 8-year-old child in Vista Park, Bloemfontein, who was killed by the ferocious animal.
The pit bull allegedly hopped the fence and attacked the youngster who was playing in his yard at Vista Park, prompting the cops to shoot the dog dead.

SABC News was informed on Tuesday by Keshvi Nair, a representative for the Bloem SPCA, that 49 pit bulls had been turned in this week.
Nair claimed that because it was their duty to protect the animals’ interests, the SPCA would never refuse to accept any animals that were turned over to them by their owners and that they would always take in dogs that were unwanted, ill, or wounded.
“The surrender of a large number of animals at one go is not something new to us. We see it on a daily basis with dogs, cats and farm animals.
“What happens when an animal is surrendered is that each animal is given an equal opportunity.
“We assess each animal and a decision is made on the best interest of each animal,” she said.
