Ndawo Yami, her debut album, was released in 2004. She collaborated with friend and producer Eric Pilani on it. Zama, who was only 19 at the time, won the 2005 Samas Best Newcomer prize for it. After that, Ndawo Yami dominated the charts and produced four hit singles.
Her innovative blend of Afro-jazz, soul, and funk won over audiences. Ndoni Yamanzi followed it in 2008, which let some of her followers down. In 2012, she released Trailblazer through the independent TMP label.
