After the Grammy nominee announcement in November 2023, South African musician Musa Keyes joined the Ultimate Kaya 959 Top 30 to share his sheer excitement over his very first Grammy nomination. Musa Keyes, along with Davido, has been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance for their song, Unavailable.
When asked about the nomination, Musa Keys described it as a “life-changing moment.”
Interestingly, Musa had predicted this achievement to his friends a year before he even released Unavailable.
Speaking on how the record came about, he said it started with a simple DM from Davido on social media. Davido reached out, asking Musa to send him some of his music. However, Musa, not being a fan of working over the phone, decided to stall and wait until they could meet in person.
“Funny enough, we were both booked in Amsterdam, and we both met there for the first time. The reception was amazing, and everybody was so happy to see me.”
Unfortunately, they couldn’t record music then, as they both had other bookings they had to honor. Musa Keyes eventually settled on working on the song with Davido remotley, which would eventually earn him his first Grammy nomination.
The 55th Grammy Awards will be hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah and will take place on February 5, 2024, at 3:00 a.m. SAST.
