Mona Monyane has done a lot of healing over the past few years. The actress says the journey has helped her become a better person and a better co-parent with her ex-husband, Khulu Skenjana.
“We can have a conversation with each other and not fight or have a sense of blame,” she told Drum magazine.
Monyane and Skenjana announced their split in March 2020.
“The battles we have met have been difficult to overcome together and I ask that you respect us by not sensationalizing our separation,” Monyane tweeted.
The couple lost their daughter Amani-Amaza Wamazulu Skenjana in November 2017.
“…within seven days my baby passes in my arms. I am sitting there going, ‘Okay, what is going on?’ So we are talking about spirituality and I am thinking, I am like, ‘God, where are you? I don’t know’. It was too sudden,” she told CWNH Hosted By Wendy in 2018.

Tragedy strikes again
Two years after Amani-Amaza’s death, the family faced another tragedy. They watched helplessly as their family home burned down.
Monyane lost her daughter’s ashes in the blaze.
“I am in awe at the amount of loss I have experienced in my 29 years of life on this planet. Losing Amani’s ashes in this fire from hell has got to be the greatest lesson of letting go I could ever have had to experience,” she wrote.
Speaking to Drum, Monyane says she realised after her daughter’s death that she needed to begin healing.
She decided to focus on her wellness. Monyane says she was able to let go of the trauma she faced in her life, including sexual abuse and an absent father.
The healing process also helped her improve her relationship with Skenjana.
“Khulu and I are even at a beautiful space because of my healing… We have reached a place of understanding that we are parents, and this is God’s gift to us; that we are a family forever because we have children,” she told the publication.
Power of Wellness
Monyane is now helping other women empower themselves through wellness. She is the CEO of Power of Wellness (POW).
POW helps women prioritise their wellness. This includes spiritual, mental, financial, and physical wellness.
“When are you healing? When are you prioritising yourself?… When are you going to take the time to do the hard work so that you can be fabulous?” she asks in a video she shared on Instagram.
