Home Minister Malusi Gigaba says should the Guptas be found guilty of a criminal offence in future in South Africa, their citizenship or, where applicable, permanent residency, would be revoked. Gigaba along with Home Affairs Director General Mkhuseli Apleni briefed the media after a Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs in Parliament about the naturalisation of members of the Gupta family. David O’Sullivan spoke to Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba’s spokesperson, Mayihlome Tshwete, who said the Minister did not, in his personal capacity, grant the Guptas any citizenship.

Twitter Reacts to Tshwete’s statement that Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba didn’t personally grant the Guptas South African citizenship during his previous tenure in the ministry:

I’ve always said people like Mayihlome are in such position because of connection his father being Steve Tshwete otherwise the boy is an idiot. Both him and his boss Malusi Gigaba

How can he speak in his personal capacity when he was invited and asked the question as the Minister of Home affairs? Is Mayihlome speaking in behalf of home affairs now or his personal capacity? I am asking in my personal capacity and for a friend

I think Cyril Ramaposa put Gigaba back at home affairs to hang himself. He’s already started. pic.twitter.com/36qj2siHwQ

So which is which? There was a presser by the @HomeAffairsSA and @mgigaba was there..presumably lying. Now this came out. Tshwete and Gigaba think we are stupid. Don’t worry Gigs. In your own words “We gon b alright”. As soon as you resign, hand yourself to the authorities pic.twitter.com/s0AStfzRMH
