Fans of Marvel’s Avengers superhero movies will be happy to know that their spin-off series Loki will be available to stream in the first week of June.
Much like the Falcon and the Winter Solider series with Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, Season 1 of Loki will also consist of just six episodes.
Launching 9 June, Loki will stream on Disney+ in the same way other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series Wanda Vision and Falcon and the Winter Solider did.
The series spin-offs were a welcome relief to fans of the MCU Avengers movies after the 2019 finale of Endgame, which saw many favourite characters hanging up their superhero suits.
As much as there will be other Marvel feature movies dropping this year, like Black Widow with Scarlett Johansson and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, fans will not be getting a series reboot of the Avengers movies.
Instead, Marvel picked up continuation in the storyline via the series format with key character’s unfinished stories needing the Marvel touch.
Tom Hiddleston will return to the franchise as Loki, Thor’s evil time-hopping stepbrother who thwarted several of the Avengers plans to save the world.
Marvel has been very clever in tying up loose endings with characters such as Scarlet Witch, Wanda Maximoff and Falcon and the Winter Solider with both series concluding their stories in Season 1.
For Falcon and the Winter Solider, the series finale hints at a new Captain America movie and so puts hopes for a Season 2 on the back burner.
Wanda Vision on the other hand was a complete story arc in Season 1, there will not be another season as Wanda’s story concluded in the series.
Six, 40 to 50 minutes episodes of Loki. Will that be all fans can expect?
Possibly. However, rumours for a second season of Loki are not dying down but President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige is not spilling any beans.
Marvel have set the benchmark for the franchise high and both Wanda Vision and Falcon and the Winter Solider were well received. Wanda Vision won Best Show Award at the 2021 MTV Movie and TV Awards and Elizabeth Olsen scooped up the Best Performance award. Anthony Mackie also won for best hero in Falcon and the Winter Solider.
So, there’s really no pressure on Loki to hit the mark.
