Makgotso M says she does not believe in cancel culture. The actress says it encourages “self-righteousness”.
“I think we have all done and said things that would get us cancelled. It’s just not online.
“I do think though, it’s [necessary] to call out nonsense and to take responsibility for our trash ways,” she tweeted.

Many of the ‘Is’thunzi’ star’s fans agreed
“Cancel culture has a lot of good but like any type of power people are guaranteed to get drunk of it,” one follower wrote.
Several local stars, including Mac G and Kelly Khumalo, have felt the wrath of cancel culture.
More recently, TV presenter Piers Morgan quit his job on ITV’s ‘Good Morning Britain’ after being accused of using his platform to bully Meghan Markle.
Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, received more than 40, 000 complaints about Piers’ on-air comments about Meghan’s recent interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Piers claimed the Duchess of Sussex lied about suffering from mental illness during her time as a senior royal.
Many labelled the 55-year-old’s comments “irresponsible” and called for him to be cancelled.
Mental health issues
Makgotso M’s comments come weeks after she opened up about her mental health issues.
“Since the start of the year I have not been in the best mental space. Internal and external factors,” she wrote.
The actress added that she decided not to stress about things that are out of her control.
“Today I felt a peace I haven’t felt since. So much is out of our control. What’s the point of stressing yourself sick? Do what you can and trust God with the rest.”
