The newcomer who, wait for it, only started signing last year during lockdown has just dropped her first album.
Speaking to DJ Keyez on The Ultimate Kaya 959 Top 30, Babalwa talks about her music journey thus far, shedding light on who she is.
The journalism graduate is from Protea Glen Soweto and started making music out of boredom during lockdown.
When the pandemic hit, Babalwa was playing around with music, passing the time at home. She tells DJ Keyez that she didn’t plan for things to turn out the way they have.
“I started making music during lockdown. To be honest it wasn’t something that I thought was going to be what it is right now. I was just playing.” Babalwa shared
It was during lockdown that she dropped the track Feza with Kelvin Momo. The catchy track caught the attention of SA music lovers with many loving falling in love with Babalwa’s powerful voice.
The singer hasn’t shot any music videos yet but it’s definitely in her plans. Babalwa said there’s been some confusion with people thinking her EP Bayeke was her debut album.
