On Tuesday afternoon, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party announced the removal of Secretary General Floyd Shivambu from his position, citing a violation of the party’s constitution.
The decision stems from Shivambu’s recent trip to Malawi, where he met with self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri, who is currently a fugitive from South African justice.
The controversial visit has sparked widespread criticism and raised concerns about Shivambu’s judgment.
In an interview with Newzroom Afrika, Shivambu defended his actions, insisting that there was nothing untoward about the trip.
“When I went to see Prophet Bushiri and he said, ‘Let’s go to church,’ I went to church,” he stated.
Reacting to the news, Sizwe Dhlomo expressed both disappointment and concern. Dhlomo, who has previously voiced support for Shivambu’s leadership potential within the MK Party, did not hold back in his critique.
“I’ve always believed that Floyd was great for the MK, and I truly thought he could rise through the ranks and lead the party better than anyone else,” Dhlomo said.
“This isn’t just about law enforcement, it’s about public perception. It’s about how the very people you’re trying to win over feel about this man,” he continued.
Dhlomo also referenced his earlier online exchange with Shivambu, in which he questioned the decision-making behind the Malawi visit.
“I even tweeted him this. You know you’re already under siege within the MK, and then you go and do this? As much as I believe in him and want to see him thrive in the MK, I feel he brought this upon himself.”
