In November 2023, a learner at Maope High School in Bela Bela was stabbed to death in what was described as a bullying incident.
The victim, 18 years old, was stabbed in the upper body.
According to several reports, an argument ensued between two groups of learners, leading to a fight that resulted in the victim being stabbed and sustaining injuries.
Unfortunately, this is becoming a regular occurrence in South African schools. This poses a great threat to the well-being and safety of students. On Tuesday morning, 959 Breakfast discussed the growing violence in South African schools and asked listeners to share what they saw as a solution to this growing scourge.
