UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak resigns as prime minister. Following a humiliating defeat in the general election, Sunak delivered his farewell speech to the country.
In a concession statement outside Downing Street, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak declared his resignation. Sunak expressed regret to the people on Friday and announced his resignation as party leader.
“This is a difficult day, but I leave this job honored to have been prime minister of the best country in the world, to the country, I would like to say first and foremost, I am sorry,” he said outside the Prime Minister’s residence at Downing Street, before heading to Buckingham Palace to tender his resignation as prime minister to King Charles III.”
“I have given this job my all, but you have sent a clear signal that the government of the United Kingdom must change. And yours is the only judgement that matters. I have heard your anger, your disappointment, and I take responsibility for this loss.”

Keir Starmer is the new UK prime minister
Keir Starmer, the leader of the center-left opposition Labour Party, will take office as prime minister of Britain.
With the acquisition of the 326 seats needed for a majority in the House of Commons, the leader of the Labour Party has ended 14 years of Conservative dominance.
