President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed that he is expecting a comprehensive report from Ebrahim Rasool, the former South African ambassador to the United States, following his recent expulsion.
Rasool was expelled from the U.S. on Saturday after making controversial remarks about the Trump administration during a webinar last week. As a result, he has been given a deadline of Friday, 21 March 2025 to leave the country.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Bana Pele Early Childhood Development Leadership Summit in Braamfontein, Gauteng, Ramaphosa addressed the matter, emphasising that he is awaiting further details on the situation.
The expulsion has raised concerns about diplomatic relations between the two nations, and the report from Rasool is expected to shed light on the circumstances leading to his removal.
“Ebrahim Rasool will be coming back soon as the US State Department has ruled that he is no longer acceptable in the US, and he is going to come back and give me a full report. So, I will wait for a full report from him.
“But at the same time, we have noted the displeasure that has been expressed by the US, particularly about the remarks he made. And we will engage with them as we are already engaging with them,” said Ramaphosa.
