- Brand South Africa has launched the ‘Justice Is in Your Hands’ campaign to tackle the country’s escalating gender-based violence and femicide crisis.
- The initiative strengthens support for key services such as Thuthuzela Care Centres, Legal Aid and the GBV Command Centre.
- This launch comes during 16 Days of Activism and follows the President’s declaration of GBV as a national crisis.
Brand South Africa has launched a new initiative, ‘Justice Is in Your Hands’, aimed at tackling the country’s gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) epidemic, which has officially been declared a national disaster.
The organisation says South Africa can no longer rely on awareness alone and needs urgent, collective action to protect women and children.
More than thirty percent of women aged 18 and older have experienced physical violence in their lifetime. This is according to the latest data released by the Human Sciences Research Council.
At the same time, 33.8% were murdered, highlighting the alarming rate of femicide in the country.
Brand South Africa says the campaign aligns with President Cyril Ramaphosa’s 20 November 2025 declaration that GBV be treated as a national crisis and arrives during South Africa’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
The initiative rallies support for essential services such as the GBV Command Centre, Thuthuzela Care Centres (TCCs) and Legal Aid South Africa, which collectively provide emergency medical care, legal assistance and psychosocial support for survivors.
TCCs remain a critical pillar in the country’s fight against GBVF, offering specialised, survivor-focused services under one roof.
Brand South Africa CEO Neville Matjie emphasised the deep social and emotional impact of gender-based violence.
“GBV is not only a social emergency, but it is a wound felt in families, workplaces, and the heartbeat of our nation. With this campaign, we promote access to help but also call on every South African to stand firmly with survivors.
Justice is not optional it is a value we all share
