Point of View with Phemelo Motene took the time to pay tribute to the late Thabiso Sikwane, a former Kaya 959 Breakfast Show who passed away on Saturday, 31 August.
Joining Phemelo in-studio the Sikwane and Matladi families celebrated the larger-than-life personality, and Thabiso’s former co-host, David O’Sullivan shared what a powerful force of a woman the 50-year-old was.
As they navigate the untimely loss of Thabiso, the family kept their composure, reiterating that it’s what Thabiso would have wanted.
Describing the media personality and author as “unorthodox”, Thabiso’s ex-husband, Thato Sikwane, better known as DJ Fresh shared that it would have been Thabiso’s wish for people to remember her in a positive light.
A devoted mother to their children, Thabiso was honoured by her family sharing their fondest memories and lessons that they will always hold onto.
Thabiso and DJ Fresh’s son shared more about his mom.
“My mom carried herself the same in every environment, to be honest.
The traits that her colleague David shared about her were the same that she exuded at home. My mom was truly stern in her word, she would not take any other word except hers.
She was stern in how she wanted things done, in how she wanted to raise me, my brother and my sister and I feel like she’s done a good job in that.”
Walking in faith, Thabiso was a Christ-conscious woman who was raised by her aunt and this came through in life, as she was resolute about her religion guiding her path.
Actress Thami Ngubeni who has known Thabiso since the age of 6, recounted a funny story that Thabiso shared about the time she managed to get Michael Jackson’s birthday.
