
Al Jama-ah Premier candidate, Thapelo Ahmad unpacks the party’s manifesto.
Point of View with Phemelo Motene recently spoke to Al Jama-ah Premier candidate, Thapelo Ahmad, South African politician and imam, as well as a former mayor of Johannesburg who unpacked the party’s manifesto.
Al Jama-ah which will be contesting in the upcoming national and provincial elections was founded in 2007 under the current leader, Ganief Hendricks, and ran in the national elections in 2009, 2014, and 2019.
In terms of religion, Al Jama-ah seeks to protect Shari’a law and promote Muslim interests.

Al Jama-ah, opposes divisive and polarizing movements that jeopardize national unity, including the Western Cape’s Capexit.
Additionally, it supports policies devoid of discrimination, such as those that uphold the supremacy of imperialism, blatant materialism, racism, Zionism, and its detrimental psycho-socio effects.

On the Land Question:
“The land question for example, as a principle of humanity, as a Muslim we are taught that land is everything. The land is the economy, it’s where you build your house, even this studio is build upon the land. We are also thought that I must defend my land by all cost. You can’t transform your society if you don’t have the land.”

In their manifesto AL JAMA-AH, has outlined what they promise to do when elected into office:
- Ensuring full employment with decent jobs for all.
- Recognising Every Right for Every Child – Al Jama-ah will fight for the Right of Every Child to be nurtured, their talents to be invested in, their emotional, physical, psychological and mental health and well-being to be realized, protected and secured.
- Ensuring Everyone’s personal safety.
- Realising the Right to clean, drinkable water.
- Ensuring universal health care.
- Protecting the Right to be free from mass surveillance.
- Fighting for the Right not to be tortured.
- Ensuring effective civilian oversight of our intelligence sector.
- Regarding the life and property of every person as a sacred trust, that must be protected.
- Vehemently opposing ALL forms of racial superiority!
